Shelly Yakus Calls in to Promote MyStudio.net Grammys Contest

It's not every day we get to talk to a music legend on the show. Shelly Yakus is a renowned music producer, audio engineer/mixer and recording studio designer. He has engineered/mixed recordings for some of our favorite artists including: John Lennon, Stevie Nicks, Alice Cooper, U2, and long list of others... and there is other stuff too. He co-designed, equipped and supervised construction of A&M recording studios in L.A, as well as served as their Vice President for a number of years.

TONS OF STUFF!!! AND HE TAKES TIME TO CALL INTO OUR HUMPDAY PODCAST AND TALK TO US!!

We freaked out, but found our cool and learned about the contest MyStudio.net is having. They are sending someone (with guest) to The Grammys. You can read all about it on the main page, you can also listen to the podcast here:

blog radio

Shelly mentions the specifics about the contest and then gives us a few tips on creating the best sound and video quality in MyStudio.

You should really check out some of the featured videos on www.MyStudio.net, sign up and rate while you're there too. It's quick and painless, and it's free :-)

It was so much fun, we can't wait to have Shelly back on the show to talk about his experiences and accomplishments. I am sure he has some great stories, and I can't wait to hear them.

I'll keep you posted!

Interviews and questions

I was finally able to post the interview I did with Bryce Hill of The Constellation Branch this morning. You can read it in the interviews section on the site. I wanted to make sure everything was ok'd with the band before I posted it.

I enjoyed talking to Bryce about the band and some things didn't make it into the interview like: the fact that Aaron Motley (bass) actually designed some of the cd art and the Tshirts in their online store; Jordan Cruz is only 19, so for half of the life of the band, he was actually in highschool; Stephen O'Sicky handles most of the Myspace stuff and email; and Bryce plays guitar AND some organ AND even did the (drum sample) programming on "The Dream Sequence."

It was hard for me to decide what stays and what goes in an interview like this, so I tried to keep everything revolved around the cd in the piece. I had 5 pages of transcribed notes from the phone call, and there was no way I could use it all... and that wasn't even my lines/questions, that was JUST Bryce's answers.

I am constantly blown away by the talented youth in this state... sadly it makes me feel incredibly old and lazy.

If you were interviewing the band, what question would you ask?

Battle of the Weekend Drink Specials

I had some time on my hands yesterday... sorta, so I decided to make the flyer below with about a thousand layers in photoshop ;-). It was fun.

ANYway...

I decided it might be cool to start a segment on our Humpday show about drink specials at the different venues, not only would that help get our names out there to the venues, but it's sort of free advertising for them.

I called around to several clubs and wasn't able to get everyone, but I am going to keep on it. If you work for a venue or frequent any Arizona clubs/bars and are privy to certain weekend specials, spill the beans here. We will continue to add them as we gain knowledge of them here on the site and on the Wednesday Humpday Promo Podcast on BlogTalkRadio.

Recreating the Myspace

When I had originally decided to stop doing the site (with the intention of moving out of state), I ditched the myspace page. I severely kicked myself in the ass with that one, because we had made so many networking connections that the local scene could have utilized even with us being gone.

I recreated it, and I am slowly building back our contacts. You can add us at the new myspace address: http://www.myspace.com/azoverload101

I am not as active on the site as I was before, and the best way to contact me is still via email: 2mara@azoverload.com

You can follow us on twitter: http://www.twitter.com/azoverload or me personally at http://www.twitter.com/2maraA

Send us a message and let us know what's going on with you, and definitely keep us posted on your upcoming events, so I can make sure to get them added to the calendar on the site.

Take care!

Phone Interview with Bryce Hill of The Constellation Branch

I just got off the phone with Bryce Hill of The Constellation Branch, and I have to say that they are one of my new favorites locally. I can't get over how awesome the new cd is, and I can't wait to post the write up next week.

Hopefully Monday! Keep checking!
